Mother's Rights.
The mother does not always get full custody.
Pennsylvania courts make all custody
determinations based on what is best for the
child. Absent certain exceptions (such as abuse
and neglect), it is typically best for a child to form
a meaningful and regular relationshipwith both
parents. There are many ways to accomplish this
goal. Agreements can be reached on:

Joint Custody of Children
One parent will have primary physical and legal
custody while the other parent has shared
physical custody.

Visitation
Rarely, the court will award one parent full custody
and grant only visitation rights to the other parent.

Legal Custody
The parent who has primary physical custody is
usually provided with full legal custody, under
which that parent is able to make educational,
religious, health, child care and other major
decisions.

You do not have to let the court determine your
child custody arrangement. If you and the other
parent can come to an agreement outside of
court, you can avoid having a judge determine
how your child will be raised.
